Comparison

Wise vs Airwallex

These two get compared constantly, but for most people the choice is settled by one line in the eligibility rules rather than by any fee. Airwallex does not offer personal accounts. If you are not a registered business, the comparison is over before it starts.

Last verified 2026-09-01

The deciding question is not price, it is eligibility. Airwallex states it cannot offer personal accounts to individuals, and requires a fully incorporated business in good standing, registered in an eligible country. Wise accepts individuals as well as businesses. Establish which of those describes you before comparing a single fee.

Which one fits your case

Neither product is better in general — they are aimed at different buyers. These are the conditions under which each one is the reasonable choice.

  • Wise

    • You are an individual, a freelancer, or you have no registered company — Airwallex is not open to you.
    • Your main need is sending or receiving money across currencies at a predictable, visible cost.
    • You want no recurring fee and no plan to manage.
    • You want to hold a wide set of currencies personally as well as for a business.
  • Airwallex

    • You have an incorporated business in an eligible country and the documents to prove it.
    • You need to accept card payments from customers, not only move money.
    • You want corporate cards with per-employee spending controls.
    • You are building payments into your own platform and need an API and connected accounts.
  • Neither, yet

    • What you actually need is a US business bank account for a US entity — that is a different category, closer to Mercury.
    • You have not checked country availability. Both providers gate features by where you or your company are registered, and that check is free.

The full research on each

BonusBench applied to Wise and was declined, so it is not an approved partner and earns nothing from Wise. BonusBench is an approved affiliate of Airwallex (approved September 2, 2026) and is paid a commission on customers it refers. Neither relationship shaped this comparison: it carries no affiliate link, neither provider reviewed it before publication, and the criteria above are the ones that were used before any application was made.
